PRINCE2 is a project management methodology based upon principles which helps an organisation manage the delivery of products to a customer, which enables the customer organisation to realise benefits and obtain a return on its investment in a project.
PRINCE2 is based upon the experience of thousands of project managers over many years and is regarded as embodying project management best practices.
Courses and certification
PRINCE2 certification (PRINCE2 Foundation and PRINCE2 Practitioner) can be gained by passing the necessary exams. Preparation for the exams is usually done by attending a course running between 2 and 4 days), or by self-studying using online learning.
The time required for self-study varies between individuals but is approximately the same as the time required when attending a course.
In the UK, Europe, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, Singapore and Hong Kong, PRINCE2 certification is much more popular choice than PMP certification.
The PRINCE2 Foundation examination is a closed book exam, meaning no books or other materials are allowed. The PRINCE2 Practitioner exam is an open book exam and students can bring their copy of the PRINCE2 manual into the exam room.
The Foundation exam is a standard multiple choice exam and tests your understanding of the terminology of the method. The Practitioner exam questions are based upon a scenario and tests your understanding of how to apply the method to a simple project.
The pass mark for both exams in 55%.
